I don't want to hear any flaming........Dave says we need to post to keep the forum going and I got honest questions. My Maliblue has a single 4, I got a measly 850 CFM carb on it, the engine runs out of CFM around 6500, with the dreaded 1050 I could spin that thing to 7200 and it was still pulling.... So I have been thinking of going 2x4 and running two 600's. While I was at Holly Springs I met Barry Camp, Looking over Barry's Pig I noticed he had a tunnel ram all under the hood, Having a huge car allows that. When I asked him about it, he jumped in saying it was legal because he ran FX. I thought that was odd because the only thing I read in the rules is that the Carbs need to be below a certain level and your intake has to be.... "Manifolds restricted to commercially available cast units"..
Now, There is only one Chevy square port 2x4 intake made that isn't a tunnel ram, except the old cross ram that won't clear aftermarket valve covers. It is only good for 6000 rpm as it is mostly a street rod "show" intake. I can get that thing or I can get a tunnel ram and shorten it and make it fit. A couple of guys have told me that's legal but then Barry's comment has got me wondering as he jumped in there really quick about it being legal for FX. It should be legal for any class shouldn't it? I wonder if he has run into objections at some races being it's a tunnel ram.?
And then I hear a lot of Mopar guys bitchin cause they have to run an Indy Cross Ram or some crappy cross ram intake...On a side question.what's stopping the mOpar guys from running something else?

Tunnel is legal- so long as it fits under the scoop/hood, and is commercially available cast. The only down side to chopping one is the shorter runners tend to put you rpm range up a little...the rules say top may be modified for carb placement.....therefor we modify it to place them lower...

Tunnel ram wouldn't fit under my cowl hood...
Steve Wilson took 2/4 off his car when he got it, and it ran faster....
Don't know what the old set up was, but it was faster with a single 4150.
Put some hilborns on methanol, and run it in FX!!!! You'll have enough CFM/fuel then! DOUBLE DOG DARE!

Why not run the 3 deuce set up with 3 500cfm Holleys? I know one person that ran that set up,and he made it work damn good!! Was in a black 66 Chevelle that ran the old Texas SS Circuit in late 60s,and early 70s.Won a few races with that combo.

Doug, out of the box that's 1500cfm,with fine tuning them probably pull a little more cfm.

Interesting, but what I just read that is more interesting is that if you are running FX with a Chevy: You are only allowed a single 4bbl Hey I am just reading what's there.....
I think I am going to print that out and show it to Barry Camp at the next event... ;D

But back to Steve, I seen his car or a picture of his car with the 2x4, it was that crappy low rise edlebrock street rod intake.

What Mopars guys complain? This is a Mopar intake..... not a cross ram and is legal because it fits under the hood.... Coming soon the lane next to YOU !!!From the Texas Outsiders web site..... •Chevy 396-454; Single 4bbl with Rochester, Carter, AFB, Edelbrock, Holley, Inline 2x4 AFB or Holley, Inline 3x2 Holley. CARBURETOR (FX Classes): Vehicles in this class permitted the use of carburetors listed for NSS, or Holley up to 850 cfm in size (NO Dominators). Aerosol Carburetors Prohibited.

I think mine are the NMCA rules that I got from Daves site, but I guess this is why the rules are always f' up. Just picking the Chevy parts.......and then it goes on to say......I have no freakin Idea what an Aerosol Carburetor is, or why they write Single 4bbl and then write you can use carburetors listed for NSS

1.20 FUEL INJECTION FUEL INJECTION: Era-correct mechanical fuel injection permitted in F/X classes only. Or 3x2 in NSS

Would a Ron's flying toilet fuel injection system be considered era correct? It sure looks old.

Holly chit........check this out. That's a low rise intake... Damn, that thing is too pretty to use, found it in a search for under the hood intakes. Guy had it made for a 632 in a 65 Vette.
