Dave you may need to go back a few years......the OLD NMCA based qualifying on R/T. The NSCA used the same format that we use today. Some traditions do change for the better. In most cases R/T is only for a tie breaker or for the overall package. There are many formats used across the country for ladders and it only depends on what is "traditional" for that region or series. I would rather use the deal that we have now. Qualifying based on closest to your index..now it's 1st come first on the ladder...some do use the R/T in the case of ties for determining your position and not the first to do so.

Quite a few times in the last year I've been tied for first and in each case they went with the first to do it. I believe I'm 2 for 4 on doing it first. Even though the timing used now goes 4 digits to the right of the decimal -- most tracks (Milan excepted) still just print 3 to the right. It is the ever evolving ladder idea that I think is a bad idea. I guess it is no big deal as I have generally RT as well as anyone, I stand as much of chance to benefit than get hurt -- but it really seems like it is going to cause more confusion with people having check the ladder after every round because of it changing -- than to have a ladder done based on et qualifying -- and just living with it instead of changing it. It isn't rocket science. Print a couple of these for a range of car numbers and be done with it. www.nhra.com/competition/ladders.aspx

Ok..... the reaction time is NOT considered in qualifying except to break a tie. In fact, there isn't a place to even put the reaction time in the program during qualifying. If there is a tie, I will have to look at the print out from the track to see who had the better reaction time for their best run and manually overide the qualifying order. Reaction time only comes into play during eliminations, just like it is supposed to.
It isn't rocket science..... ever sit down with 3 run sheets for 3 qualifying runs, figure out how close everyone was and them place them on the ladder by hand??? It took me the whole time between final qualifying and first round and I had to run to the staging lanes with the ladder so we could pair the cars. Won't have to do that any more!!!! The printout from the track only shows what each persons time are. It does not sort them by who is closest to their index.
How did you come to the conclusion we were going to use reaction time for qualifying???
When Tidmore first set up the spread sheet for me he didn't allow for reaction times during eliminations and we all know you can get beat on the tree so he went in and added that to it. Makes my job a whole lot easier!!!

BTW..... the program is set up to go to .0001 (ten thousandths) so the likelihood of a tie is pretty slim IF the track printout shows the 4th digit.
But then again..... I do recall a recent NHRA race where the top 3 qualifiers ran identical ET's during qualifying and they had to sort them out by MPH...... so it can happen!!!

News flash!!!!!!
We have procured enough funds to have Garlits bring the Challenger and SR12! (pending an answer from him to make sure he can make that happen)
We also will be having the Blue Max Plymouth Arrow funny car at the race making some passes!!!
HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!

On the other subject: As for Don Garlits.....I could do with out the grouchy, egotistical old fart, all together!

I'm hoping for at least one or two TT passes -- as I don't have a clue what the class I should qualify the wagon should be as I've yet to make a full pass. I'm going to short shift it at 6500 and see where that puts the car.

Ennis screwed the NSS racers. Steve Wilson won and was to get $1500. They gave him $500. Dallas was to get $300 and they gave him $100. We bought two cars here fro Houston as a favor. Never again. Waited two hours to get screwed.
