Yea tuff way to lose.but every racer knows you can't put any liquids on the track,if you do you're out. That small leak may indicate a coming major problem, say at 1/2 track something happens, liquid on the tires, that could lead to a major crash.Again I say it's a tuff way to go out,but it's a rule for alls safety.

Been there done that. Was #1 qualifier at Joliet. Even number of cars for first round. Pull up and they back me up and off to the side. My catch can had spit some water out the over flow. Not a happy camper but not mad at no one.

Well Congrats on how far you got. That's a decent enough start for the year, hope you make it all the way.

it appears to be the front header bolt in the number 7 cyl port. It literally leaked two drops and I don't run anti-freeze. It drips 1 drop per 15 seconds when I got back to the pits. I'm all for safety -- but that was weak

Royal Purple has me submit to them a recap after every major race we attend -- as part of our sponsorship deal. I've posted it at www.nostalgiadragracers.com/ if anyone is interested.

I'm all for safety -- but that was weak I know someone that used to drive a really fast, stick shift, FX car that would have been highly torqued-off about 5 drops on the track....... Lemme see....I believe the car was red Congrads on a good weekend.....

I heard that it wasn't leaking until it got up to temperature, then it was leaking pretty good. It left a pretty big puddle in the staging lanes. Unfortunate way to get DQed, but it has happened to all of us at one time or another. If it is a header bolt I put anti-seize on the bolts and have not had a problem, that is all it usally takes to seal them. Sometimes freeze plugs or water jacket drain bolts will leak like that as well. poppaj

I don't think I've ever complained about 5 drops of water on the track. Maybe 5 gallons of JP4 misting on there or only using 5 drops of VHT past the 60' mark - but never 5 drops of clear/pure water.
That said -- the headers were pulled off and it is a pin hole in a head freeze plug. The engine was pulled last year for new brass freeze plugs to replace the steel in the block and heads -- but couldn't find the right size for the header side of the heads. Guess we should have tried harder as the engine needs to come out again to replace the ones that didn't get replaced.
No real room to hammer in those freeze plugs without at least lifting the engine out of the bay.

I use Hylomar (or Detroit Diesel gasket maker) on Big Block Chevy head bolts that thread into water jackets. Works well....

Dave, If you have the headers off before you pull the motor out you might try a air style body man's palm mallet. Very compact and it is air powered or a porta-power and use the frame as a place to press against. It don't take a whole lot to push them in. poppaj

Damon is coming by to look at it this morning. Dallas, who has pulled the engine before, says that the headers are such in that car that you can't get them out of the engine bay with the motor in. They look pretty tight to me. Dallas thinks that the best way will be to lift the engine a foot of so to clear the headers, the cage the extends into the engine compartment, and the inner fenders.
