Of coarse I would run into a problem.
I put the intake on and low and behold the distributor cap hold down clip is in the way. It hits on the front of the intake.
Any ideas?

Most have that problem. Clock the dist as close as possible and some do grind a bit...and use the smallest diameter dist possible..........and think crank trigger.

I try to use the stock style distributors when people don't insist on the pretty ones, crank trigger or not- otherwise what Mark said- the intake bolts are nothing special, Fastenal or any hardware stoe- home depot for that matter

I was thinking about rigging another cap clamp. If the darn clamp didn't bulge out so far it would fit perfect.

Hi, just pull the dist out and move the dist drive one tooth put dist back in set timing and clamp won't be an issue. or easier way would be to move the plug wires one hole clockwise or counter clockwise turn the dist and reset timing. Russ

That was going to be my next ? If I rotate the distributor clockwise will that advance my timinig? It is set at 32* but was thinking of trying 34* or 36* to see if I would gain some power. I don't think that one tooth will do it.
Can I pull the distributor and turn it so it will clear everything and reset my timing again. When I say turn it I mean like a 1/4 turn or is than what you meant by moving the wires and turning the distributor and setting the timing?

Put the engine at TDC.
Mark your distributor body where #1 is currently. DON'T ROTATE THE ENGINE! Loosen the hold down and rotate the distributor, to where the clip won't interfere with the manifold (leave a little each direction, so the clip won't interfere, for timing proposes). DON'T ROTATE THE ENGINE!
Remove cap and hold down, lift the distributor out of the gear, and align the rotor with the mark on the dist (get it close any way). After dropping the distributor back in the gear, rotate the distributor body to align mark, with the #1 wire on the cap. It would be good at this point, to mark the distributor body to the intake, for a quick TDC reference. NOW YOU CAN ROTATE THE ENGINE!
Hold down on the distributor while turning over the engine to seat the distributor shaft in the oil pump drive.
This is your "new" number one, TDC.
Attach the timing light, and final time it to the spec of your liking.

Not necessarily that easy in a Mopar.....not like a Chevy or a Ford...there is a drop in gear that must be clocked to let the dist drive (slot) line up correctly. The GEAR is NOT part of the distributer.

Thanks. I knew there was a way to do this but wasn't sure how. I have a few more questions just to make sure I have it right.
1: When you say Put the engine at TDC, you mean on the balancer right? 2: What part of the rotor do I align with the mark?
I may have more questions later.

Sorry for over simplifying.
Been working on Chebbies too long. Last RB Mopar I built was in 1980.... 440 in the big Chrysler Town and Country tow wagon.

The mallory distrubutors clear- the others will clock enough with small amounts of grinding-clockwise advances it-it is tedious, but you could reclock the drive a tooth at a time until it is in the right range

Ok guys I will let you know if I get it fixed. You have been a great help. My list of TO DO keeps getting longer. I guess I better get busy.

Sounds a lot more complicated than it really is.
Once you get to looking at it (and forgetting most of what we've written!), you'll figure it out. Just a little trial and error.
If you can find TDC (at the crank), you can time the distributor with #1 wherever you need it to be.
THEN COMES THE GRINDER, ON THAT BRAND NEW INTAKE! Sounds like a line from a gear-head, horror movie!

"THEN COMES THE GRINDER,ON THAT BRAND NEW INTAKE!"
You ain't kidding about the HORROR MOVIE!!!! If the distributor was rotated to the right then I would have no clearnane issues. I unclamped it and bolted the intake down so it is the clamp that is in the way. I really do not want to use a grinder.

There you go! Put the distributor where there is clearance, and set the balancer on TDC.
Wherever the rotor is pointing is the NEW #1. Put the #1 plug wire there and then follow the firing order and rotation.....and never look back!
