Are you interested in a gasser build on a non period correct car? I'm doing a 1963 Pontiac Catalina into a Gasser style car. It will have (at the chassis shop now) 1957 Chevy pickup front beam axle, very modernized 1960 389 block with KRE aluminum heads flowing 325 cfm, full roller cam, forged Ohio 3.75 crank and GRP aluminum rods. Ross forged dished light wt. pistons. If I have enough money will change to all fiberglass front pieces or if not will tie all the metal parts together and make a tilt one piece. I'll be using a build 4L80 trans for good cruising on the freeways. Induction. I'm really in love with turbochargers and my first intention was to do that. But at a little local car show last weekend a really nice built blower car came thru and the sounds and the look of that darn blower just hit me as being right for a gasser style build. So I'm looking for anyone with a comlete set up that would equal what I can turbocharge it for. If I can match that I may do the blower thing. Anyway, if interested I can add some pics and keep you up on the build. I know many gasser forums only accept period correct cars. And I have no problem with that. Just thought I'd chime in and see if there was any interest. Mark L

I'm interested in following along.
While I'm more traditional on the Gassers (maybe the 57 Chevy being the last year of my interest) I can remember in the early 60s people building as Gassers later model cars with high front ends on straight front axles -- before Dick Landy wheeled out the Altered.
Don't worry about people not yet immediately replying -- it is a new board and people tend to follow before there are enough leaders. Keep taking the lead -- and followers will feel the board is worthy of their participation.

I too remember newer cars being run in the gasser classes during the 60's. I think it will be a cool car for that class. Where do you intend on running?

I know Steve very well. In fact I was training on his dragster to help him in the future and I've been helping him with his events. I was asking around to see if anyone wanted to get rid of their complete blower set ups that would fit the engine (6-71 or 8-71 if I were to get that lucky) for the same money that I can build a twin turbo set up, my original choice. Theres nothing like that big ol' blower sticking thru the hood and the sounds as well. But in reality the turbos are much more street friendly and I can't blame anyone for asking for more than $2000 for a complete bolt on blower set up. They just are not that cheap. Today I installed most of the front disc brake conversion. I ended up using the old spimdle nuts and the spindle washers but they were in sad shape so I ordered new ones coming in tomorrow. I also sanded and wire brushed most of the visible original front frame areas and treated them with a rust inhibiter. I'll paint that area tomorrow. I sprayed on some paint on the new rails and will finish that tomorrow as well. Mark L

Received the header set yesterday. I also pulled the rear axle and placed a 10 bolt axle in place to get the 4 3/4 bolt pattern so i could place the slots and slicks in place. I leveled the whole car to match the front. Once I get the engine and everytihng in place it will probably drop the front end further. Once all is in place I'll set the ride height for the rear end. I'm guessing at least 3 inch dro over all. We'll see. I'm still waiting for the splayed caps to come in. Once that happens I can get the stuff for the motor down to Paul Carter in Tucson and he'll have it to go farther on the block. I made an adptor off of the mid motor plate to bolt a late model starter to. I've been using the '58 370 block for all my mocking up. I'll take th emidplate down to the actual block and test that everything does fit. If all is good I'll weld the adaptor onto the adaptor (wait, did I say that right???) and mock up a motor with the mid and front plate, and the trans case. Then I can add the headers and see where it all falls into place. I'll get some pics at that point. Mark L

Forgot to get the turbo pics, but it is just a turbo. It's a Borg Warner S400 75MM with an exhaust A/R of 1.32. Sgould work great with my combination. Then I went after the danage in the passenger front fender. Ok. Tried something I've never had the guts to do. I did some sheet metal welding repair to my front fender. The front pass. fender was damaged by a car dolly ( I hate those things). The fender edge at the rocker seam cracked and seperated, the fender was pushed in and the holes for the trim needed closing. First time I've ever attempted welding fenders. I pounded out the damage. Welded and repaired the fender edge and welded the holes shut. There was a scrape in the metal just above the trim hole also, so I pounded that out and cleaned the area. Was always scared to try that kind of welding but it all came out OK. A little bondo to smooth it out and we'll be good to go. Mark L

While waiting for parts to roll in I sat down and drew a turbo Skull concept I've had in my head for a long time. I named him A/R, turbo guys will know what that means. Mark L
