I was wondering if it was NSS legal to have gauges on the outside of the car? I was thinking of putting a Fuel and Oil pressure gauge on the cowl. I would like to have the gauges were I could keep and eye on them at the same time as the run.
Where can I get a copy or a site that has the rules. I wouldn't have to keep bothering you guys with these simple questions that way.

Legal -- although I've not seen anyone with the oil pressure outside -- I see fuel pressure on the cowl all of the time. It isn't referenced in the rules one way or another. www.daveduellclassic.com/nss-rules/

Thanks Dave. I went over to the NMCA website and came up with the same conclussion. I figure the Oil pressure is just as important as the Fuel pressure. I would like to keep it in eyes view and have no real place to put it on the dash or in the dash. I figured next to the Fuel pressure gauge would look uniform.

Put a low oil pressure warning light on your tach. They are cheap but worth the money

The first thing I do after crossing the line is check my oil pressure -- but I have red warning lights next to the tach if the oil pressure drops to under 15 psi. I don't even have a shift light on the Vitamin C -- but have a huge Low Pressure light.

Dave, Great idea...two seasons ago I was making the turn to the return lane and looked at the gauge and noticed I was pulling only 10 psi....my engine guy was at the track and said that was "normal" for a big block..... at home I pulled the pan and needless to say my bearings were fried and cam was trash... $12,000 later... a $29.00 light is cheap insurance.

I was looking at the warning lights. Moroso has a set up that turns the light on at 15 psi. My question is that to low? I was thinking to be super safe a 20psi indicator would be good.
Looks like I have another part to buy.

I would think 15-20# at 2000rpm or less.

Even the 15# lights will flash on all of the cars occasionally when you go from full acceleration to full brake.
As I cross the line and I'm under full acceleration I glance at the gauge to ensure I have at least 10 pounds per 1000 RPM before lifting.
The warning light is more of a fail safe for aborting (and shutting the car off) the launch or the run if it were to come on while I'm looking at the tach.
I don't use a shift light -- and always have the tach in my vision as I use it to shift.

Autometer sells a 15 lb switch- you can use any light- mine is a spare shift light with a red bulb

I am getting the Autometer 15lb switch. I am going to hook it up to a red 4 LED lite pod.
