What rear shocks do you use -- and what do you like?
I currently have single adjustable QA1 on the Vitamin C and Black Coronet and double adjustable QA1 on the red Coronet. I don't recall what I have on the Whale.
I use to have Aldan Eagle/American on the black car and Vitamin C -- and they looked the nicest -- if looks counted. I looked at their web site and they appear to cater more to the Street Rod than racers, but that's what their site is targeting so I don't judge based on that.
The Vitamin C was leaning badly to the right, and it turned out being the shocks. I replaced the Aldans with QA1s and sold the used Aldans. It doesn't 60' any better or worse since going to QA1 from the worn out Aldan -- but it is a mild NSS car (only a 413 wheezing through a MP intake) with 1.53-1.54 60's. But I do like the car for its low maintenance (while we sort out Dallas' car), and consistency (I want a ring!).
We've had the Aldans on the black car since it got the 4-link in 2004 -- but I really can't judge them. The car had a weak 451 in it for a while, then a 540 for just a little while. The 451 didn't have enough power to launch that car with 14" slicks, and the 540 windowed in the first few passes. The car then sat for years -- until we blew the dust off it and prepared it for Dallas to run in NSS. It had motor problems for a long time, and when those were sorted out Doug Duell kept bringing to my attention that the car launches like shit -- and appears to lean right. Dallas was also complaining the car pulled left. Last week Damon found one of the Aldan shocks was bad - and I ordered a set of QA1s.
When calling around to get the Aldans rebuilt (Aldan will do them for $40 a rattle) I found that the opinion was QA1s were shit and AFCO was the new hot shock.
So what do you run and why, and what would you run and why?
I know Doug Duell has been trying different shocks on his wagon and Challenger -- and swears buy AFCO, although in the interest of "Full-Disclosure" I think he might be sponsored by them.
I think if I was to try a new shock on a 10-second or faster car, it might be AFCO.
