The below is the 2011 NSS Points Standings after the first race in Bradenton, Florida mid-March.

Looking at how they calculated the points confuses me -- as I was told that if you didn't qualify -- you weren't at the event. In the past, all you had to do was to tech it to be considered there.

I have a points question that appears to be a cause of confusion.

Barry Camp teched his car (The Pig) in, but broke it on Friday during TT -- and it was not going to be fixed. He was told (I think by Harmon) that if he didn't qualify a car -- he wouldn't be considered to have been at the race for the end of year bonus points (for the number of events attended). So a NSS driver who wasn't going to run the series backed out Saturday before qualifying, allowed Barry to run his 64 Chevy, Barry paid another registration (for a car that had already paid once, and a driver who had already paid once), and he had to take the car back through tech before Qualifying started.

The reason I bring this up is after looking at the PDF of the points calculation for NSS, which I'm glad is posted.

On there are a couple of NSS drivers who have the 50 points for turning in their tech card, but no other points. I believe both cars are the Thunderbolts that showed up in Bradenton. In the case of DW in the white Thunderbolt, he broke his car while in qualifying -- and did make a qualifying pass, so he assumes he's counted as being there. The other guy is a local guy in a maroon Thunderbolt, who like Barry broke in TT BUT never made a qualifying pass -- yet has 50 points.

Now he won't be running any other NSS races -- so I don't feel like I'm ratting him out or feel threatened by him. However this is a good time to clarify some confusion on what the rules are. I looked in the manual for how points are calculated -- and don't see a clear answer.

Is someone who techs in, but does not make a qualifying pass, counted as attending the event for the end of year bonus points based on number of events attended? If they're not counted -- should they receive the 50 points for teching in, as it will only cause confusion at the end of the year figuring out if they qualified and didn't get any points because they weren't the top 16; or if they broke and couldn't make a qualifying pass.

I'm not trying to stir up any crap -- it is just that when this was all happening at Bradenton and Barry was negotiating for another ride to get the end of year Bonus Points for being at Bradenton -- I heard three different opinions on what the rules were for those who teched in but couldn't qualify.

I posted the above at NMCA to get a clarification.

Once you tech in your a participant at the event. If your car breaks oh well, you don’t get Qualifying or Elimination points, but are still eligible for the end of the season bonus points.

Now if you break in Qualifying and it’s a field of 32 or less you would get Qpoints and Epoints since the class is on a ladder.
If the class is 33 or more and is not on a ladder first round, you would only get Qpoints and no Epoints since you were unable to make the call for 1st round of random paring.
In both scenarios you would get tech points as well.

Yup -- sounds good to me. No more guessing. There were all kinds of wild opinions of what the rules said when Barry's car broke and he was arranging to drive another car.
