Tunnel rams and sheet metal intakes are a NO in the CC events now called MOPOWER Events for 2011...They are fine however for the Buckeye Stock/ Super Stock Events. poppaj

You lost me at "no tunnel rams" Lost me at multiple carbs..... A very simple solution for that Doug. Do the same as the Sub. The rules allow mods for carb placement. Ya just cut on one a bit. M.

If you decide to go to an STR , I would recommend an STR15- the 14 is for raised deck My bad -- a typo as I know better. STR-15 is the best Low Deck intake. An Indy NSS intake would be a better choice than a STR-14 intake.

Hey Dave, the Sub is dam sure legal...but you may want to check around your own back door. They worked long hours on that tunnel ram (commercially avail. cast intake) to MAKE it legal for NSS. If it comes down to Legal or not...don't let me be there. Half of the field would be gone. A lot of this is only interpertation of each rule and how it is written. Many look at it different. When we started a few thought our car was not legal because of the paint job. Mark I never once said it wasn't NMCA legal -- and specifically said that I didn't feel he'd ever have a problem at NMCA races. I simply suggested looking for the STR intake so he could run in the series (there are as many as not) that won't allow (Chris' series, the Classic, ...) a tunnel ram. If it were me -- I'd keep my eyes open for one, and grab it if reasonably priced when available. Then you can run anywhere.

I supose the STR-14 would run like poo with all the vaccum leaks. LOL Thanks Dave, The only reason I mentioned NMCA rules is you said there might be some particular guys who like to cause a stir. I guess that would be the case anywhere. I dont plan on burning the pavement up this year but i am going to select a few events to run. Guess I could always hire Mark as my pit Attourney and we could hold Court. ;D Mark, I would be the first in line with a wad of cash for Damons intake when that comes to be. I would add "if" but I have faith in him.

We had to do some "modifications" to the Weiand tunnel ram that was on the 440 to keep the carbs below the plane of the hood, i.e. ..... a lot of mill work to make the plenum shorter. The Indy tunnel ram on the low deck motor bolted on without modifying and is actually lower. We cut the hood scoop down from 5" to 3 1/2" .... looks better now!

There are a couple of guys that migrate to the pits of any new car and have blown them in for one thing or another. Fred Rader will proudly tell you that he looks over every car because he wants to keep the sport pure and free of cheating. I got protested for having a two step -- and had to explain that a two step is legal for 4-speeds. He still didn't want to let that go -- claiming it was an unfair advantage given to 4-speeds, making us like a transbrake.
A 66 Chevy was protested (and had to change the car over night) by a Ford guy for having air coming from high beam holes into an air box. His complaint was that was only reserved for Ford Fairlanes. He had to duct tape over his head light holes.
There is a very small percentage of guys that will beat a fiery path to the tech inspector. If the car is legal -- then it is legal and they can complain all they want. I wasn't concerned when I was protested. The Chevy had a lot of racers tell the tech inspector Bullshit -- and he now runs the ram air again.
Another guy had his street tires protested recently for how low of a profile and small they were. He was allowed to run -- but they clarified the rules to where he has to change the tires this year. In NMC, Ralph was told not to come back with a motor plate or cowl hood, and a yellow Chevy II was told not to come back with the front-end steering arrangement he has.
A big brew-ha-ha occurred when the rules were modified for 5-speeds and clutchless; and then someone showed up with a Lenco. He was technically legal for that year -- but the rules were fixed to mention planetary type transmissions for the next year.
The stock wing on Dallas' Demon was once protested. Like it really mattered on a 11-second car! It took some arguing and 1972 Brochure photos to get that resolved.
Protests don't happen often -- but they do happen. Different people take different areas of rules more personal than others. If you're winning, people take a closer look.
A couple flat don't like single carbs, or tunnel ram, and/or sheetmetal intakes -- no matter if legal or not. Some places (one in the Pacific NW) won't allow the Indy NSS intake I run in their races -- but they'll allow 12" slicks and transbrakes. Go figure.
If you are legal then their protests are merely an inconvenience -- but it is always easier to take a lower profile. I don't get into the protest crap -- because like Mark said -- if you have a magnifying glass and a day -- you can most likely find something questionable in 90% of the cars. I didn't mean to sound like I was stirring up shit -- just suggesting how to run most every series.
Damon's intake would be the cure for sure.

Do like the dirt trackers do...if someone protests, they have to put up $. If the loose the protest, they loose the $. That would stop a lot of whining.
But some enjoy the drama.....

FROM THE FLYER (1st tech item): Open to 1959-69 period-correct Super Stock cars with multiple carburetion and series-approved body and big block engine combinations We're not "multiple carbed" or "approved", so we'll sit Chris' races out (again) this year.... There's plenty of races to go to that we are "approved of" .....

I am just getting back from the Indy Cyl. Head show. I had great response from everyone for the Series. It was really good seeing everyone there. Now for some good news! Rick at A&A Transmission has agreed to add one of his Cross Ram Intakes to the points fund!!!!! Also I believe that Russ at Indy will sweeten the pot as well. In addition, I believe that Sam at TTI will add a set of headers and Mancini Racing is considering adding to the points fund. I think that things can really grow from here! I am leaving for California Thursday for March Meet. If you get bored, you can watch the live feed from there on Bangshift.com and cheer on some Wanna-be Funny Car racers from Missouri. When I get back, I'll pin the sponsorships down for the Series. See you at the races, Chris S. AKA "The Flying Butcher"

We just put a set of Sam's 2.25'-2.125 step headers on Dallas' Coronet. I'm glad Sam was talked into making the big headers we need for high CID cars with big port 572 heads.
