I am in the planning, early build stage, and was wondering what intake would be best to use.
As of now, I am building a 68 Dart with an RB, but that could change if I find a 64 Dodge. I think I am going with a 440, but that could change.
My budget is going to be small, so I am buying as much used as possible. Should I look for an Indy or A&A crossram, or an Edelbrock STR-14? I was just reading about the STR, and it seems Damon is quite the expert on them.
I am not really hoping nor expecting anything faster than 11's at first, I just need to get a car done and down the track. I have been screwing around and dreaming about this for long enough.
Thanks in advance for your opinions.
Dennis

A&A and MP Cross Ram look the most authentic -- but is the weakest of the three. I have a MP cross ram on the Vitamin C and the car will do 10.5s in the best weather.
The STR14 is better than the cross ram -- if you have the engine for it.
The Indy really doesn't look that period correct -- but necessary for the big CI motors. My Vitamin C doesn't have enough motor for it -- and runs slower with it. I would guess it might run faster with the SRT 14. You want the in-line (or slightly staggered) top over the big off-set.

Thought he wrote he was using a 440. Isn't the STR-14 a "B" engine intake?
For an 11 sec car go with the crossram it looks the best!

STR-15 is for a B (low deck) and STR-14 is for RB (raised deck).
STR-12 is Chevy....

Gotcha.
There is a STR-14 plus carbs for sale on the forAbodies forum.

If you can get a 14 cheap with inline carbs, it should outperform the crossram or A&A

Gotcha. There is a STR-14 plus carbs for sale on the forAbodies forum. I saw that, but he won't separate the intake from the carbs. Fugly, when you say cheap, what is cheap? Also, I have seen a lot of conflicting info about these intakes. Are there two different bottoms? will any of the tops fit any of the bottoms? Dennis

I've seen STR14s without the carbs for as low as $250 on eBay a couple of times -- while the STR15 is up over $2500. I imagine that when a good low deck 2X4 intake hits the market -- and the world learns of it -- the STR15 might stop appreciating at the rate it has been.

yes there are different tops and bottoms and not all will interchange- all you need is a good base - the lids can be modified- if it were me, I would look for the inline version as it is faster- 500 or less would be a good deal- anymore than that and I would consider the Indy

All of the ones I have been finding must be made of gold, considering the asking prices LOL
I will keep looking.
Thanks

I guess people try to get STR15 prices for a STR14 -- but the STR15 is only worth that much more because of the lack of alternative available for the STR14. I haven't priced the 14s in a couple of years -- but I had seen a bunch for $250 a few years back. I bought one hoping the tops interchange -- they did not.
