I was recently involved with a conversation with Chris Schneider and Doug Duell concerning Index vs. Bracket for NSS.
I might have the story wrong (it is assumptions and rumor not what I was told by either) -- but with the Holly Spring's race I believe the Track approached Chris to help put it together. Chris runs his NSS Series as an Bracket vs an Index. Chris in turn asked Doug if he'd help pimp and run the NSS portion of the event -- and my understanding was that Doug agreed if it was an Index race running the same rules and format of the Dave Duell Classic.
Back to the conversation -- I debated that the Index was the way NSS drivers like to run, and that he might even lose some drivers as they feel that their mastery of the Index is an advantage, and they don't have experience or even like bracket racing. He debated the reverse -- saying that he knows racers who don't like Index racing and prefer bracket style.
So -- what is your opinion:
Do you prefer one over the other, and if so would you not attended an event with one over the other?

OK, Time to beat the dead horse again (where is that cute icon when you need it!)! I know this is a new site, but you've polled this before. I remember the numbers, index was the clear winner. Chris may have lost a couple, but the format used, made this race an overnight success, as far as NSS goes. I don't know the whole story, but I know alot of the early story. I was approached by the Holly Springs track personnel, then lobbied Chris for a NSS Class. Chris went to Doug, and (as I understand) if Doug was going to be involved, it was going to be Monster Rules (if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right). 20 cars on a cold weekend (Fri./Sat. anyway), after most are finished for the year, with little scheduling time, weekend before another major race, IT WAS A HIT! In the infancy of this race (remember it was less than 60 days from a thought, to the actual race), I told Chris, we could get some NSS cars, and that index -vs- bracket was not a deal breaker for most....but we had to use NNSSA (Doug's) rules (to allow as many cars as possible in the program (mine and several other locals). I also told Chris, several other ("little") things didn't make a big difference, like, .500 full tree or .500 full tree, etc. The little things, generally won't make-or-break a race, for most of the regulars. WE JUST WANT TO RACE. Adding a little "spice" now and then, I feel, is a good thing. After this short history lesson...... Back to the initial question...... INDEX -VS- Bracket, I prefer INDEX, but I'll race BRACKET. At Holly Springs, due to the weather, I would have preferred a lower E.T. INDEX due to the really cold air..... maybe declare your index after the last round of qualifying....but that would have been it's own, logistical nightmare. I know a couple of drivers that were a little slow, and they wouldn't have wanted a lower index,. So, to each his own, you can't please everyone! LET'S RACE! DON'T CARE HOW! LET'S JUST RACE! Now, where's that dead horse icon? ? A new poll for the 2011 season?
