I was looking at putting a set of the Procar seats in the Coronet but have no idea how to connect them to the crossbar. There is nothing there to bolt to. The only way I can figure is to take the seat back apart and add a crossbar to the frame, then put the seat back together.

That's about the only way to do it. You can be "legal" by only doing one side. On some seats we just put a hole in them in the middle and use two large washers...it will pass tech. It ruins the seat but will work. Personally I see no need for the procar seats...heavy and not really designed for a race car...they just look fast.

For drag race use, you basically have 2 choices.
A. Cheep and functional - Plastic.
B. Light and a more bucks - Aluminum.
I'm cheep, plastic in the Malibu (that's what was in it when I got it). Can't justify spending more bucks to save a few #..... But I'm cheep! ;D
That's my two cents worth....that's all I'm going to spend on an opinion!

I agree that the seats are heavy and not really for a racecar. My motor is a pump gas motor. I was going to drive it to cruise ins and on the street so wanted to put in a little nicer seats. After seeing the fancy seats in the Killer Whale it got me thinking again about putting the seats in my car.

BUT how are they attached to the cross bar? ?? That is the real question.

They're not really attached to the rear bar by anything more than the belts that are attached to the bar coming through the seats. When Driver is buckled in -- the seat back is attached to the bar. the belts are attached to the cross bar and wrapped around. They then come through the holes in the seat backs. They're flipped over the back in the above photo (but are loose) so I can reach around and grab when seated and buckle. The seat bases are custom made out of 1" square tubing -- to the correct height of the driver. Because the floor pan is higher near the tunnel -- the legs are shorter near the tunnel to keep the seat level. I had the last ones welded up at a local welder. I don't know I can get photos of them with the seats in. Since I'm a full-figured guy and saw how Cracklin Jack's seat got ripped out when he hit the wall -- I have 6 bolts holding the bracket to the floor, and 4 bolts holding the seat to the bracket.

I guess I will just stick with my plastic ones for now. I have a lot of other things to do to the car to get it ready to run this year.
I hear you on extra bracing for the seat. I ran a piece of flat stock on the bottom from side to side on the front and back mounting bolts.

I thought all cars with a roll bar(11.49) had to have the seats bolted to the cross bar?
I have the seat covered so I guess I need to order another one soon.

If you are going with aftermarket seats I would think Kirkey alum seats with covers would be the best, much easier to mount and definitely more durable.
