I also spent $450 for a week's groceries and beer, and a new $100 coffee maker. I spent $300 admission (2 cars on a Thursday). $90 for an inner tube and burned 15 gallons or Sunoco Blue. Putting my cost at $3000.
I got a $200 check for making the Semis and Dallas got $75 for making the Quarters.
Back home two days was spent for three guys ($1000 labor for Dallas, Damon and the Rat) to pull the Vitamin C engine and replace freeze plugs, replace a set of rockers and arms on Dallas' car, change out his car pedal, and replace the worn out shocks with QA1 adjustable coil-over $300) on Dallas' car. I'll spend $75 to wash the motorhome and trailer and $40 to clean out the inside, then another $250 to prepare it for the next race.
None of this considers the wear and tear on the rig, the cost of the rig, the $500 a year to register it, the $2000 a year to insure it, the costs of the cars, or the work missed loading, unloading, traveling, and racing (8 days per event).
You know the saying -- the quickest way to make a million in drag racing is to start with $2Million.
I love racing -- but this might be the last year I can justify spending that kind of money to do it on a National basis. I haven't had an income for quite a few years and need to make adjustments for how the economy has affected me.

It might be more cost effective to park (store)the rig and cars somewhere in the midwest and fly in/out for the races. $2100 in fuel only! If you only spent half I think the airfare would be less than $1000 for 2 seats round trip. Also less wear and tear on rig and driver plus less travel days.

Yeah -- but I'm too big to fly coach, need transportation to the airport, at least one car needs something after every race, laundry for the towels and sheets, groceries and race fuel, and I'd worry too much not being able to keep and eye on my rig and the tools and cars inside. Also eliminates having the ability to race more locally, and the tracks are cris-crossing between the upper midwest and the Southeast. I've never been a fan of storing the cars in the trailer either.
While it looks good on paper at first -- it just wouldn't work for me.

I remember years ago seeing painted on the spoiler of a Camaro.... "I have become moderately wealthy racing cars.... I was filthy rich when I started".
I like your idea of a regional NSS series. Would keep everyones costs down a bunch. Lest we forget we do have a NSS race at the Motorplex in May!!!
One down, a few more to go!! We just need to find a sponsor and go for it! Maybe some of those northern folk would venture down here to race.
